These stunning fleeces showcase the best of the Portland breed.
Considered an at-risk breed, I am pleased to be able to offer you these blade shorn fleeces from a flock in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.
They are blade shorn early in the year to make the most of their fleeces; famously a warm, white, down-type breed with a medium staple and gingery tones. Portland wool tends to have a higher lanolin content than other rare breeds I work with.
Portland fleeces work well both carded and handspun, or spun at the mill; they take dyes incredibly well and also are good for felting. The perfect all rounder.
These gorgeous fleeces weigh in the region of 1.5-2kg and your purchase supports the ongoing breeding and pritection of this beautiful, iconic Dorset breed.
