I offer small, hands-on workshops rooted in the materials, tools, and rhythms of the landscape.
These sessions are an opportunity to slow down, work closely with fibre, and learn traditional processes from fleece to finished cloth.
Teaching is a natural extension of my practice — a way of sharing skills, knowledge, and a deeper connection to making by hand. I learn as much by teaching as I do by making.
What to expect:
Workshops take place in a small, informal setting, often with access to the flock and the wider landscape that shapes the work.
Depending on the session, you may learn to:
– handle and prepare raw fleece
– spin using a drop spindle or wheel
– weave on a rigid heddle loom
– understand the qualities of different fibres
– work slowly and intuitively with natural materials
No prior experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to work with your hands.
My approach to teaching is patient, practical, and grounded in experience.
Rather than rushing toward a finished piece, the focus is on understanding the material, the process, and the quiet rhythm of making. You will return home with a yarn or textile that shows off a variety of fibres and techniques.
Small group sizes allow time for individual guidance, questions, and a slower pace of learning.
I aim to provide an inclusive space for people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.
The Workshop:
Workshops are held on the edge of Exmoor, in a working environment where the connection between land, animal, and textile is visible at every stage.
This is not a formal classroom, but a place of making — shaped by season, weather, and the everyday work of caring for fibre and flock. It is rustic - expect an outdoor toilet!
Materials:
All materials are provided unless otherwise stated, and tools are available to use during the session.
Further details, dates, and booking information can be found within each individual workshop listing below.
