Spend a day learning the foundations of weaving on a rigid heddle loom in the peaceful surroundings of the farm. This beginner-friendly workshop will guide you through the process of setting up and weaving on a rigid heddle loom, giving you the skills and confidence to continue weaving at home.
Rigid heddle looms are affordable, versatile, and relatively quick to master, making them an excellent introduction to the world of weaving. Once you understand the basics, they offer endless opportunities for creative exploration.
The workshop takes place on a small farm, next to my sheep fields, where you'll learn not only the practical skills of weaving but also gain insight into the connection between fibre, flock, and finished cloth.
During the workshop we will cover:
- How to choose the right yarns for your project
- Planning and warping your loom
- Weaving with different fibres and yarns for a variety of effects
- Simple techniques for adding texture and design
- Finishing methods, including tassels and decorative edges
- An opportunity to visit the HoneyWoods Flock and learn about their care
A range of yarns will be provided, and you are welcome to bring your own materials if you wish. You can also choose to upgrade to yarn from the HoneyWoods Flock for an additional cost.
Workshops run from 10am to 4pm, with a break for lunch.
My workshops are designed to help you understand every stage of the weaving process, from selecting suitable yarns to setting up your loom and exploring different techniques. Rather than focusing solely on producing a finished item, you'll have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of structures, textures, and effects, leaving with a woven sample piece and the knowledge to begin your own projects.
If you would prefer to weave a finished scarf, please let me know in advance and I can prepare the loom for you before the workshop.
Both one-to-one tuition and small group workshops of up to four people are available, ensuring plenty of individual guidance and support.
All tools, equipment, yarns, and refreshments are included.
